International Carnival Parade - Carnival Highlight:

The International Carnival Parade is the culmination of carnival festivities in the Kvarner region. This competition in imagination, wit, and originality transforms the city of Rijeka into a magnificent scene of fireworks of colors and shapes. Hundreds of allegorical floats, thousands of masks, and numerous spectators from all over the country and abroad make this event unforgettable.

Since 1982, when it was first organized under the leadership of the Rijeka Tourist Board, the Rijeka Carnival has revived the long tradition of masquerading in the coastal regions of Croatia. It has become an essential carnival destination, elevating the City on the Rječina among the most significant European carnival cities. Over the years, the International Carnival Parade has become one of the key programs of this spectacle, attracting an increasing number of participants and audiences from different parts of the world.

Today, the Rijeka Carnival not only preserves tradition but also actively shapes it. The International Carnival Parade brings together traditional and urban carnival groups that interpret current social events through their masks. This unique blend of European bourgeois carnival, folklore, and mythology provides a unique experience that is difficult to describe in words or capture in photographs.
